- Here's a great sports story for you, the LSU Tigers are headed to the final four WITHOUT their head coach Pokey Chatman, who was forced to resign amid allegations of improper sexual conduct with a former player. They demolished powerhouse UConn last night and are headed to their 4th straight final four. I saw the first half of the game and LSU's Sylvia Fowles looked like the second best player in the tournament (behind Tennessee's Candace Parker).
- I don't care whether or not you think women's basketball looks like men's basketball underwater. The end of the Rutgers/Duke game was wonderful. After shocking UConn in the Big East tournament, the Scarlet Knights upset the unstoppable Duke She-Devils. I can't help but point this out because I loathe everything about Duke. In case you missed it, Duke point guard Lindsey Harding was "fouled" with 0.1 seconds left and sent to the charity strip to shoot 2 free throws. (A referee should NEVER decide the end of a game by calling a foul here. It was obviously another case of Duke favoritism and the reason I hate them with such passion.) She's normally a very good free throw shooter, but ended up missing both and was sent home. Tooooo bad.
- Candace Parker and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers are pretty much shoe ins to win it all. Parker is the player of the year in women's college basketball and a premier force. Just an all around great player. They absolutely blew away a very fast paced Ole Miss team and I don't see them faltering in the final 4.
So after predicting that the men's NCAA championship game would pit UCLA vs. Georgetown, it got me thinking...which school would win if they could take their all time greatest players in their prime and put them on the floor for one game. The Bruins would have Walton, Alcindor, Reggie Miller, Gail Goodrich, etc. while Georgetown would have a triple headed monster in Alonzo Mourning, Mt. Mutombo, and Patrick Ewing, plus a young Iverson running the point. It's an extremely tough game to call, but I'd say the big men would cancel each other out and the difference maker would be AI.
